Alcatel-Lucent

Exhibition Stand

Miura was approached by The Conversations Group to design an exhibition stand for Alcatel-Lucent for the Mobile World Congress 2010, in Barcelona. We would be responsible for the design of the exhibition stand along with the content for the stand which would aim to highlight the importance of good design in mobile app development. We were thrilled to get involved in such an exciting project.

Project Overview

Alcatel-Lucent is leader in fixed, mobile and converged broadband networking, IP technologies, applications and services. Their vision to enrich people's lives by transforming the world of communications has resulted in Alcatel-Lucent becoming one of the largest innovation powerhouses in the communications industry.

THE SOLUTION

From the offset we decided to enlist the expertise of RFK, the architects with whom we share our studio space, and incorporate their knowledge on all things architecture. We worked closely with them to ensure our vision would become a reality.

Considering the scale of the Mobile World Congress we needed to ensure the Alcatel-Lucent stand stood out from the crowd. The stand needed to be highly engaging as well as very striking visually. When designing the stand we decided that it needed to meet two criteria, it needed to be open and inviting, while also very eye-catching. Te ensure this we decided the stand should have a very wide entrance so that the inside of the stand was visible to all walking past. We decided the stand should be all white, to highlight the projections and other engaging elements that we would add to it. We introduced coloured lights which would bounce off the ceiling of the stand and change colour continuously to generate the feeling of rejuvenation. A long bar would run down the middle of the stand so that people could stand around and chat in a relaxed atmosphere. We decided to introduce two Zettel lights above the bar, to further reinforce the concept of generating ideas.

To demonstrate the importance of good design in app development we decided to have two projections in the stand. One being a series of video interviews with top people in the mobile industry talking about great mobile apps. The second would be an animated projection which would show design classics along with great designer's quotes on what makes good design. To make the stand even more engaging we decided to have an "ideas wall" where people could stick up post-it notes with their ideas for great mobile apps.

Both Alcatel-Lucent and the Conversation Group were very pleased with the outcome, and the stand reached all the goals set out in the brief attracting a lot of attention at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona.
