Amazon has unveiled its plans to open a chain of grocery stores without checkouts, instead customers will pay for their shopping by simply ‘tapping in’ on arrival via an app.

Using computer vision, deep learning algorithms and sensor fusion, Amazon’s “Just walk out” technology detects when items have been removed or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual shopping basket. When you leave the store the items will be charged to your Amazon account, no need to wait in line.

Expected to open to the public in Seattle in the US in early 2017 this is a huge step forward for a frictionless retail experience.
