Mummies Hunnies
PROJECT OVERVIEW
When we were approached by Kathryn O’Brien, the owner of Mummies Hunnies, the brief was direct and simple. Create a brand design for a new children's clothing store that mothers will feel comfortable with from the outset. A large percentage of the business would be conducted online so we were also requested to consider how this branding would work in a website design.
THE SOLUTION
Mummies Hunnies was a graphic design project we really enjoyed developing. It gave us the opportunity to design for retail, and more importantly for the children's market. Potentially with time, Mummies Hunnies could become a household name on the High Street so we knew we had to develop an expandable and appealing brand design.
The founder of Mummies Hunnies, Kathryn O’Brien consulted us on various name options and spelling variations and we were delighted that she was happy to follow a route which was grammatically incorrect. It gave the name an innocence that would reinforce the brand values as well as form an instant bond with her target audience.
The process from then on was to develop a logotype design that embodied not just the values of the brand but also the quirky nature of the spelling. And we knew we had something special.
So, we developed a series of characters based around traditional children's book illustrations. And we fine tuned these to our ‘Erin’ sketch, of a young girl writing out the brand’s name. This gave us permission to get the spelling wrong, reinforced the message of a children's clothes store and, through the traditional illustration technique, gave the brand design a sense of style and longevity.
