Inspiring the Future Launch

Inspiring the Future Launch

We started this morning back in school having an assembly- taken by the Deputy Prime Minister for the launch of Inspiring the Future, sister company to our wonderful Speakers for Schools.
Inspiring the Future has been set up to encourage people from all sectors and professions to work with state school students to understand the job market out there and help them achieve their potential.
After starting off the day with introductions from Nick Clegg and revelations that Joanna Lumley wanted to be PM but instead became an actress, we entered the careers fair and got to talk to a range of students from year 9 upwards, explaining what we do, what they wanted to do, working for a SME and how we got to where we are today.
Thinking about design and the creative process we asked ‘What’s the big idea?’ Getting everyone to think about an app that would help them.

Our favourite apps of the day (from staff and students);

– Thing finder app- to help you find your keys or anything else that’s missing
– Homework app- very popular topic for an app- one that does your homework to an app for teachers to help them monitor and distribute homework
– Health app- to help you diagnose what’s wrong with you
– Picture app- take photos of things and it tells you what it is.
– Answer app- to answer ANY question
– Sketch app
– Font changer app- to customise the fonts and colours on your phone
– Class settler app- another teachers favourite, an app to settle a class!

– Bookkeeping Class app – To improve and make lessons more engaging
It was a brilliant morning and a hugely successful way to launch this amazing scheme. Talking to the lovely children at Bishop Challoner School and other employers there it really showed how much we can all help put some clarity and perspective around the scary subject of “careers” and hopefully we tapped into some of the design talent of the future!
